Motorists Cautioned As Work Continues on Ota/Idiroko Expressway, Residents Seek Improved Pace

Motorists plying Ota/Idiroko Expressway have been cautioned to avoid further damage on the ongoing reconstruction as it slows down the pace of work.

This was made known on Friday during a telephone interview with the Engineer in charge of the road construction.

The Engineer, who alleged sabotage by some Motorists, said that the drainages which are still under construction and waiting final reinforcement have been facing destruction by articulated vehicle drivers who park just beside the drainages, forcing artificial damages.

Addressing claims that “local bricklayers and unskilled labourers” were handling sensitive components such as bridge and drainage works, the Engineer described such assertions as a ‘gross distortion of reality’, emphasizing that all critical elements of the project are undertaken under strict professional supervision and subjected to comprehensive quality control mechanisms.

While reaffirming its commitment to quality assurances, he pledged that upon completion, the Ota/Idiroko Expressway will stand as a ‘benchmark of durability and quality within Nigeria’s road infrastructural landscape’.
“Our standards remain uncompromising,” the statement concluded. “We are resolute in delivering a project that will not only meet but surpass expectations, serving communities and the nation at large for decades to come.”

He however, send strong indications to motorists and other road users that ‘sabotage’ on the ongoing reconstruction will no longer be tolerated as offenders will be prosecuted.

Meanwhile, relevant stakeholders in Ota have urged the Engineer in charge of the reconstruction to up his game in order to hand over the project before this year’s rain commences.

In a chat with a Civil and Construction Mogul in Ota, Engineer Omodele Asade on the quality of work done so far, he enjoined the Enginner to tighten all loose ends and make sure he maintains standard when doing so in that the road serves as corridor that links two major west African countries, while also calling on road users and the general public to be patient with the company as he is sure they will deliver a quality work in the end.
