Security Guard Shot Dead In Suspected Cult Attack At Lagos Estate
A security officer, identified as Stanley, was reportedly shot dead during a suspected cult-related attack at Royale Estate in the Sangotedo area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Friday night when gunmen stormed the estate and opened fire before fleeing the area.
According to a source familiar with the incident, the attackers arrived at the estate between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. and allegedly shot Stanley, who was on duty as a security officer.
The source, who requested anonymity over security concerns, claimed that the victim was shot several times, including in the head.
“They just stormed the estate and started shooting. Stanley, the security man on duty, was shot several times, and in the head too, before they shot in the air and fled the area,” the source said.
The incident subsequently generated reactions on social media, including on NaijaConfra, where users shared posts and videos alleging that suspected cult members were behind the attack.
However, the Lagos State Police Command has not publicly confirmed that the incident was cult-related.
The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the shooting on Monday, saying preliminary information indicated that the victim was attacked by two
unidentified men riding a motorcycle.
“The incident occurred. He was shot by two unknown individuals on a motorcycle. The command has launched an investigation into the incident. No suspect yet,” Adebisi said.
The police spokesperson did not disclose the motive for the attack or confirm whether the assailants were cult members.
