The distraught mother of the serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Abdulsamad Jamiu, killed during a crossfire between troops of the Guards Brigade and suspected armed robbers who attacked Shagari Estate in Dei-Dei area of Abuja, has cried out for justice for her son.

In a heartbreaking video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Abuja PR, the distraught woman is seen weeping uncontrollably as she lamented the tragic loss of her son.

“Here we are today, Nigeria has happened to me. I need justice, please. They killed him. They came for him,” she cried in anguish.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the deadly incident, which has sparked outrage among residents and social media users, occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 25, 2026, when residents of the estate were thrown into panic following an armed robbery operation that prompted a swift military response.

Reacting to the incident on Sunday, the Headquarters Guards Brigade expressed deep regret over the death of the corps member, describing the development as tragic and heartbreaking.

In a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Olawuyi Odunola, the Headquarters Guards Brigade extended condolences to the family of the deceased, NYSC, and others affected by the painful loss.

“We share in their grief and stand in solidarity with them during this moment of profound sorrow,” Odunola added.

The Brigade also confirmed that a full investigation had been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, assuring the public of transparency.

It disclosed that the remains of the deceased had been handed over to the appropriate authorities and deposited at Kubwa General Hospital.

Reaffirming its commitment to security, the Guards Brigade stressed that it would continue to refine its operations to ensure civilian safety while combating criminal elements.

“Guards Brigade affirms its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property within the Federal Capital Territory.

“We will continue to review our operational procedures to further enhance civilian safety, even as our troops confront criminal elements who threaten the peace of our communities,” the statement said.

The Brigade also urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
