Minor With Cerebral Palsy Raped After Her Mother Left Home To Look For Food

A child with cerebral palsy was allegedly raped by a man in Chepalungu Bomet, Kenya. 

Kenyan activist, Njeri Wa Wigwi, who disclosed this on Tuesday, October 14, said the incident happened last week while the child’s mother was out looking for food.

“This is Chebet. Chebet has cerebral palsy. She’s a child and last week a man raped her when her mother went to look to food. Her mother says she hasn’t been able to get justice,” she wrote.

“The case is in Chepalungu Bomet. The reason we need social support and safety nets for children with disabilities is a lot of times mothers bear the burden of care and most of them will tell you ; they lose partners and relatives due to having disabled children. 

“How do you balance care, food, hospital bills in absence of social nets like where do you take your child in order for you to fully cater for her needs. 

“I’m saying this because many people will ask where her mom was? She left her child in the house and a rapist found a helpless victim and raped her. Today my appeal is to people and stakeholders of this area. We need and must get Chebet justice.”
