Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Kill 6, Abducted 3 In Ilogbo, Ota As Army, Police Begin Rescue Operations

Ilogbo, a community within Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of Ogun state, has on Friday, been thrown into mourning as suspected Fulani herdsmen reportedly killed six residents of the town and abducting three others.

VOA News gathered that the clash, which happened around 11:30pm on Friday, had suspected herdsmen moving with hundreds of cows and armed with dangerous weapons in and around Olugba area of Ilogbo laying a coordinated attack on residents of the community while still in their sleeps.

According to a source, who confided in VOA News but craved anonymity, he said they were still in their sleep in the wee hours of Friday when they heard gunshots and before they could call security agencies, they had ransacked the whole community, leaving at least, six people dead and abducting three others.

He listed one Mr. Gboyega Oluwasegun who was in his mid-forties, Adeyemi Jacob, a father of three in his fifties, Mr. Felix Ogunsile, an elderly man among those that were killed. Though he said he could not ascertain the identities of those abducted as at press time, he added that the families of Pastor Magbedelo Sunday reported that their father was missing.

Our source also confirmed that two women were raped during the attack and are currently receiving treatments at the Ilogbo Primary Health Centre.

When VOA News contacted the Ogun State Police Spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola to speak on the matter, she said that though the case had been reported, but the Police do not have full information as at press time.

The attack, undermines different peace meetings initiated by the Onilogbo of Ilogbo, Ota, HRM Oba Dr. Samuel Olufemi Ojugbele between Fulani community and the host community to broker peaceful co-existence in Ilogbo and adjoining towns and villages. VOA News report.
