Anti Police Brutality Activist, Olanshile Adegbamigbe Escapes Assassination Attempt In Ifako-Ijaiye

A 37-years old, Olanshile Williams Adegbamigbe, an activist and a ‘core’ participator in the ‘’#Endsars’’ protest, has reportedly escaped assassination attempt by some yet unknown gunmen at his residence in Ifako-Ijaiye area of Lagos.

The near sad event which took place around 11:45am of Tuesday, had five assailants that heavily stormed the residence of Mr. Olanshile Adegbamigbe, who is a ‘core’ participant in the ‘’#Endsars’’ movement and he was rumored to be the founder of a new human right group, called ‘’Irawo Owuro’’ youth movement.

An eyewitness, Mr. Fola Ojo, who is Mr. Olanshile’s neighbour, told our correspondent during an interview that himself and a lady friend were at home in their residence at No 2 Oshunkeye street, Idi-Agbon Bus-stop, Iju college road, Ifako-Ijaiye on Tuesday when they heard a loud ‘bang’ on their neighbor’s door and they came to notice that two of those armed men have already made their way in, while the other two were outside the building trying to observe the premises.

“I was at home with my girlfriend on Tuesday around 11:45am when I heard a loud ‘bang’ on my neighbor’s door. At first, I was reluctant to open the door, but I eventually did after I noticed something strange on his premises, with his dog barking aloud.

“I came out and what I saw was very strange, I mean, I saw two men dressed in full black outfits, to me, they seemed to look like some undercover agents with their face caps on with guns in their hands, trying to observe Mr. Olanshile’s surroundings and one of them looked at me and asked, if I have a clue of where he is and I immediately told him that I don’t have a clue. He then asked that I return to my flat and not attempt to make any calls.

Later that evening, we observed that Mr. Olanshile’s room had been ransacked in an attempt to find him”.

Mr. Fola further told our Correspondent that when he contacted his neighbor later that day to relay the news to him and asked why he was being trailed, he said that they are attempting to silence him just like they did to his friend, Oseni Afeez because of the information at their disposal.

When asked about the information, he said Mr. Olanshile did not disclose such to him, but only advised him to remain calm and that he was going to relocate to a safer place where he would not be found.

In a separate interview with Mr. Olanshile’s father during a phone conversation with our Correspondent, he said that his son had participated in the recently concluded Endsars protest and that himself and colleagues had teamed up to form a group which they used to agitate for freedom against police brutality and oppression of the poor masses, but issue broke out when his own group was funded by some political class believed to be in the opposition to intensify the protest. Meanwhile, this did not go down well with some public office holders who believed that the ensuing melee might be an attempt to topple their government. So, they decided to silence them.

He called on relevant security outfits to ensure the safety of his son as he received News that a yet to be identified men broke into his son home in order to end his life.

All attempts to speak with the Nigerian Police Force’s spokesperson, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu proved abortive as calls made to his phone and messages sent to him were not acknowledged as at the time of filing this report.

Recall that youths on Wednesday, 20th October, held a memorial procession across the country to mark the one-year anniversary of the #Endsars protests and to honor victims of the #Endsars saga, a procession that ended in chaos in some parts of southwest and southeast Nigeria.
