Suspected Gay Pastor, Omotunde Julius Abandons Family, Church, Flee As Police Launches Manhunt
Police have launched manhunt for a suspected homosexual Pastor, Julius Omotunde of Salem Mountain of Peace Ministry, Atan, in Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of the state for activities which might be unconnected to homosexuality.
According to the spokesperson of the Nigerian Police Force, Omolola Odutola, she said that according to the criminal code act and the same sex marriage (prohibition) act of 2013 which criminalizes homosexuality and other related offences, ‘Ogun state Police formation will stop at nothing to smoke out all perpetrators of this ‘evil acts in the state’.
She said that Ogun state Police Command have launched a manhunt for a 42-Year old Julius Omotunde, who is a Pastor at Salem Mountain of Peace Ministry in Atan, Ota for allegedly committing an offence which is prohibited under the country’s Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act.
Odutola said that luck ran out on Omotunde’s partner, one 38 year old Moses Adejare, who was nabbed alongside one other gay partner, 40 year old Ajayi Gbenga on a CCTV footage mounted at the rest room in one of the popular Lounges in Ota on Friday, 22nd of September.
“We have received intel that a group of young men have been having swell time at a popular Lounge in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of the state and according to the information we gathered, their activities may be contravening the same sex prohibition act of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Manager of the Lounge where this act was perpetrated had reported the case at the Obasanjo Police Station in Ota on 22nd of September, 2023 where he alleged that one Moses Adejare, who usually patronize the lounge in company of his friend, Ajayi Gbenga; were caught sharing intimacy at the rest room by the decoy team of the Nigerian Police Force, who were also on an undercover assignment at the club”.
On why the management of the lounge decided to escalate the matter to the Police, Odutola said that a memo had gone to all club and lounge owners in the state frowning at how lounges and clubs have become a hide out for bandits, kidnappers, armed robbers, gay and lesbians and they have been asked to expose such acts that are not lawful to the Police, which failure to comply, would lead to closure of such facility.
Odutola buttressed that Moses confessed to the crime, admitting also that himself, Gbenga and one Julius Omotunde, who is now at large, is also an accomplice and that they have been sharing intimacy as far back as 2004 when they met at the Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ogun State. He also confessed that the spot where they got apprehended is their usual spot and that Julius introduced him to the lounge as a choice place for carrying out their dastardly acts.
The Police Spokesperson assured that the suspects would be arraigned on Monday at the Ota Magistrates’ Court 1.

Meanwhile, VOA News Correspondent gathered that the suspect, Julius Omotunde, who is now at large, is the Pastor at the Salem Mountain of Peace Ministry, Atan, Ota, a church with over 200 members and that his father, Reverend Omotunde Samson, who is the founder of the church, has immediately dismissed him as a Pastor in the church because of the act which he described as ‘shameful’ and a ‘stain on the body of Christ’.
According to a source from the church, who pleaded anonymity, she said that they were at the church on Sunday, 5th October, when a team of Policemen arrived in their van. They met one of the ushers who attended to them at the entrance and they informed him that they were in the church to effect the arrest of Julius, who is wanted by the Police for an undisclosed offence.
“We were in the middle of the service on Sunday when a team of Policemen arrived in their Hilux to arrest our Pastor who they said committed an offence they did not disclose to the usher that attended to them. But the Senior Pastor attended to them and promised to produce Pastor Julius as soon as he returns from a journey which he went on.
It was later that we heard that Pastor Julius, whom has been leading the church for few years since he graduated from school is a ‘Gay’. This news is a very shocking one because no one had expected that a man of God, whose father is the founder of our church can partake in such act”.
All efforts to speak with Julius’ father, Reverend Omotunde Samson proved abortive as he refused to grant our Correspondent audience despite several attempts, citing that the matter is in the hands of the Police and that they will handle it in their best way.
Meanwhile, our Correspondent gathered that the sad occurrence had greatly affected the public relations of the church as there are less than 50 members left in the church during their church service on Sundays.
Recall that the Nations Newspaper had earlier reported the arrest of the duo of Okon Bassey and Ademola Adekunle also by men of Obasanjo Police Station, Onipanu, Ota for alleged homosexuality in 2018.
